What began as a simple enough project, turned into something much more. The initial assignment was to take the existing shoulder patch, and re-work the colors, toning them down from what they were. The previous patch contained a more vibrant color scheme, made up of purples, yellows, greens, and reds.
The result was a darker color scheme matching the new direction of the marked patrol units. The new patrol cars, both the Ford Crown Victoria and the even newer Dodge Chargers, were being ordered in a dark blue, as opposed to the previous departmental standard white. The Dodge Chargers were also being fitted with the new shoulder patch design on the side of the vehicles, along with the other departmental standard graphics, such as the vehicle number, etc. There were several color variations and patch shapes presented, however, the shield-like shape and color scheme above is what was selected. This new shoulder patch design will be phased into the uniform patrol division and the old patch will be phased out by 2008.
