Jason Morrison to Speak at 2nd Annual Candlelight Memorial for Henry County Officer C. Haist.

MCDONOUGH, GA - Wednesday, February 16th, 2007- Sadly, the Henry County Police Department lost two of their own and too closely together. Those two police officers were Sergeant J. Gilbert and Officer C. Haist, both died in the line of duty. In his own way, Jason Morrison tried to capture a memorial of his own by way of a painting entitled "Final Salute".

After Officer Haist was killed responding to assist other officers who had reportedly surprised burglars attempting to steal cellular phones, Jason finished the painting he had started in honor of those fallen Officers.

After completing the painting and having it posted online for sometime, he was contacted by the family of Officer Haist and overwhelmed at how much the painting meant to the family and loved ones. It was also amazing to see the picture in the Henry County Police Headquarter's building in a memorial there. Several prints were given to the family and a 16" x 20" print was donated to the Henry County Police Department.

"Sometimes as an artist you start off on a piece for your own reasons and forget the weight that the final product will have on someone else. When I started the painting, I did not do so for recognition. I merely wanted to capture an image that I felt was important to capture and to share that with others. It has meant unspeakable volumes to me that the family was touched by the portrait enough to ask me to speak at the candle light vigil, " said Morrison.

On February 16th, 2007, Jason Morrison spoke at the candle light vigil in honor of Officer Chuck Haist to explain the motivation behind the painting.

"I felt overwhelmed that they would ask me to speak. It means so much that the painting was important to them. Even though I never met Chuck, from the way his family and friends spoke of him, how he served, and how he died, I knew he was a hero."

The family is currently in the process of establishing a memorial fund / scholarship for police officers who are looking to continue their education.
